Tools and Materials Needed

- Pentalobe screwdriver – for removing the bottom case
- Torx screwdrivers – for internal screws
- Plastic spudger or opening tool
- Tweezers
- Adhesive remover – to soften the battery adhesive
- Suction cups – to help remove the battery cells
- Anti-static wrist strap – to prevent electrostatic discharge

Before starting, back up your data using Time Machine or another method to avoid data loss in case something goes wrong.Shut down your MacBook Pro completely and disconnect it from any power source or peripherals.
Remove the Bottom Case
Throughout this repair, keep track of each screw and make sure it goes back exactly where it came from to avoid damaging your device.Press a suction handle into place near the front edge of the lower case, between the screw holes.Pull up on the suction handle to create a small gap under the lower case.Carefully lift the bottom case using a spudger or opening tool and set it aside.Set it in place and align the sliding clips near the display hinge. Press down and slide the cover toward the hinge. It should stop sliding as the clips engage.
Disconnect the Battery
Battery Peel back any tape covering the battery board data cable connector on the logic board.Use a spudger to gently pry up the locking flap on the ZIF connector for the battery board data cable.Disconnect the battery board data cable by sliding it out from its socket on the logic board.Use a plastic spudger to disconnect the battery connector from the logic board to avoid electrical damage during the repair.
Remove the Trackpad Cable
Use tweezers, or your fingers, to remove the trackpad cable bracket.The trackpad cable runs over the battery. Use a Torx screwdriver to remove the screws securing the trackpad cable cover, and carefully disconnect the trackpad cable.
Remove the Battery
Using a spudger, carefully lift the battery cells one at a time. Start with the corner cells and work your way around, applying more adhesive remover as needed. Be gentle to avoid puncturing the cells.If the battery cells are difficult to lift, use suction cups to help pull them away from the case.Slide the battery out of the frame to remove it.
Align the new battery with the designated area in the MacBook Pro.If the new battery does not come with adhesive, use adhesive strips to secure it in place.Reconnect the battery connector to the logic board.
