How to fix HP EliteBook 840 G6 No Power Repair

Step 1: Initial Inspection

• We first connected the laptop to a working HP charger, but there was no response.
• The power indicator light remained off, indicating that power was not reaching the motherboard.

• We opened the HP EliteBook 840 G6 laptop and removed the back casing.

  • Processor coil – No short detected.
  • 19V line resistor – No short detected.
  • 5V and 33V coils – No power was being supplied.
  • Thrill IC (Power Management IC) – Found to be heating up abnormally.

Step 5: Replacing the Power IC

• We removed the faulty Power IC and checked its pins for short circuits.
• After confirming no external shorts, we replaced the Power IC and reinstalled it onto the motherboard.

Step 6: Power Testing

• We reconnected the DC power supply and checked for voltage flow.
• Power light turned on, and the processor began receiving power.
• Voltage readings were now stable:
  • 5V supply was restored.
  • 33V supply was restored.
  • Other key voltages checked out as normal.

Step 7: Final Testing

• After assembling the HP EliteBook 840 G6 laptop back together, we turned it on.
• The display powered on successfully, confirming that the issue was resolved.
• The laptop now functions normally with proper power flow.
