Tools and Materials Needed
- Replacement screen assembly compatible with the MacBook Pro A2442.
- Pentalobe screwdriver (P5) – for removing the bottom case screws.
- Torx screwdrivers (T3, T5) – for internal screws.
- Plastic spudger or opening tool – for disconnecting cables and lifting components.
- Tweezers – for handling small screws and connectors.
- Suction cups – to help lift the screen assembly.
- Anti-static wrist strap (recommended) – to prevent electrostatic discharge.
Remove the Bottom Case
Completely power off and unplug your MacBook Pro before you start. Close the screen and flip the entire laptop upside-down. Use the Pentalobe screwdriver (P5) to remove the screws securing the bottom case.Carefully lift the bottom case using a spudger or suction cups and set it aside.
Disconnect the Cables
Locate the all cables connected to the logic board. These cables are typically covered by metal shields. Any tape covering the battery board data cable connector on the logic board. Gently disconnect the display cables from the logic board using a spudger. Be very careful as these cables are delicate.
Remove the Screen Assembly
Use tweezers, or your fingers, to remove the two screen cable covers from the logic board . the flat end of a spudger to pry up and disconnect the two right-most screen cable press connectors secured to the logic board. Once all screws are removed, carefully lift the screen assembly away from the body of the MacBook Pro.
Install the New Screen Assembly
Install the hinge screws without fully tightening them. Center the hinges and check for gaps or rubbing on either side. If your screen clicks or snaps when it’s opened or closed, loosen the screws and realign the screen.
